Hi
These are column speakers with 403A. Impedance is 12 ohms. You will need a transformer to match these to anny amp.

Queation: How manny speakers per column?

If I deduct the impedance you would have 3, 4 ohms in series in each column. 12 ohms . Wattage 12 watts each. = 32 watts total.

You could drive them with an 8 ohm amp. Best would be a 12 ohm amp. Line level matching transformer required for best results.

Why is a transformer needed? Any modern amp will drive a 12 ohm load with no problem.

Just curious what your train of thought is.

Ah, now I see. Yes a great amp. It might be cheaper though just to buy a little bit bigger amp. The transformers aren't cheap.

HI folks thanks for the info ! I couldn't find
these speakers listed here anywhere. I got coureus and opened 1 up , it has 6 8ohm
403a speakers (clean & neat inside)outside
they look good too, also have a ( altec 1212a
portable control console ) it was not as well
kept, storage was not kind to it can't find it here either, but it came with a manual, pops the built in breaker every time i turn it on

I based my thought on the Crown D75A which is a great little amp according to studio engineers.

16 ohms = 20 watts
8 ohms = 40 watts

I have a pair of 1207s that I bought in 1974. They have 6 drivers in each cabinet and will work fine with ANY normal audio amplifier - no transformer required or desired. They are certainly NOT "great," being useful only over the voice frequencies. They cannot in any reasonable way be considered full range systems. An equalizer helps, but I suggest selling them and getting something else.

well..here i go my first log in or post or what have you... first let me say im a fan, the regs here are fantasic at giving freely the information. i started out at a young age listening to groups like the kingston trio on my dads set of altecs and then one day i traded some labor for a pair of 1217b's..and it began all over again. these were thrashed and i had them reconed with new diaphragms installed in the idt-5o h-600 horns. needless to say..i melted them. however ive found a complete set of new or as new 403a, thats 12 of them. along the way i picked up a set of altec 840 cabs..also having 6 403a's in each.. now a total of 24 full range 8's going is a full sound. having never heard the 755 i wouldnt go the expense of 24..lol from my experience the 403a is a nice sounding little speaker, tho ive melted my share
